About Western Governors University
Western Governors University is an accredited, private, and non-profit online university in Salt Lake City. After the idea was presented at a 1995 meeting of the Western Governors Association, the university was established in 1997 by 19 American governors.
It has highly regarded bachelor’s, master’s, and post-baccalaureate programs that offer endorsement-prep in K-12 education, IT, and healthcare.
WGU scholarships are open to new students. The financial scholarship requirements vary depending on the scholarship. These scholarships are available to students within 90 days of the start of a course.
These are competition programs. Selection criteria include academic record, financial need, and willingness to do online research.
Only one WGU teach grant is available to students for each study program. The assessment committee will evaluate all scholarship opportunities and determine which scholarships to award if any. WGU employees and their spouses cannot be eligible.
About WGU Teacher Scholarships

Each scholarship is valued at up to $4,000 and is intended to support current teachers as they move into administration or assist aspiring teachers in obtaining the necessary western governors teaching credential to pursue a rewarding career in education.

This scholarship is open to applicants who have completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree, teacher-prep post-baccalaureate, endorsement-prep programs, or teacher-prep post-baccalaureate.
WGU Teacher Scholarships Policies
Before scholarship for teachers is awarded, the student must agree to the WGU scholarship terms and conditions. To maintain scholarship eligibility, the student must meet the university On Time Progress requirements.
A student may only receive one scholarship funded or administered by WGU during their degree programs. The recipients must be U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens. You may also qualify for tuition discounts.
How to Apply for Scholarships(WGU Teacher Scholarship)
1. Complete the Admissions Application
Provisionally accepted to WGU as a student to be eligible for scholarships. To complete the admissions application, work with your enrollment counselor.
2. Complete the General Scholarship Application
For all teaching scholarships at WGU, a general application is required. This allows us to learn more about you and determine which scholarships may be available. You will need your My WGU student portal credentials to access the application. These will be sent to and from you shortly after Step 1.
3. Log in to Scholarship Portal and Apply
We’ll tell you which scholarships are available based on the information you provide in Step 2. Next, review the suggested opportunities and complete the supplemental application for every scholarship you would like to be considered.

Multiple scholarships will also be given. This is a competitive program. Scholarships will be awarded based on a candidate’s academic record and financial needs.
All WGU Scholarship applications must be submitted by December 31st each year.
